Fees usually depends on the qualification and experience of the teacher. But why is there such a big range of fees paid?
Let’s look deeper into the fees.
What Factors Determine The Fees?
1. What would you like to learn?
Kids lessons:
Are you looking to start your child on proper violin syllabus right from the start, and progress far in violin? (If yes, you must engage a violin teacher who is highly qualified and experienced to teach your child all the way to at least Grade 8 level.)
Are you looking for your child to ‘explore’ and see if he/she likes the violin? (If yes, you can just engage a junior violin teacher to explore your child’s interest)
Do you just want him to learn enough so he can play some songs? (If yes, you can engage a junior violin teacher to teach your child basic foundation first. If your child is keen to proceed further, you can then engage a more qualified teacher.)
Is your child losing passion in violin, but you would like him/her to continue violin? (If yes, you must engage a teacher who has a different teaching style that will revive your child’s passion in music again. The teacher has to be fun, different, and be creative in teaching and choosing songs for your child.)
Adult lessons:
Are you looking to start proper lessons from the beginning, and progress up the grades?
(If yes, you must engage a violin teacher who is highly qualified and experienced to teach you all the way to at least Grade 8 level.)
Are you looking for some ‘crash course’ to learn 1-2 songs within 3 months?
(If yes, you must engage a teacher who is proficient in playing and teaching that song you want to learn.)
Do you have some violin background already, but would like to learn more advanced techniques like Play By Ear, Improvisation, Chords Playing…etc?
(If yes, you must engage a teacher who is qualified and trained to teach those advanced techniques.)
Do you just want to try out and see if you’d like the violin?
(If yes, you can just engage a junior teacher to teach you the basics and let you explore.)
Knowing your objectives is very important, because this will determine the type of teachers you’ll need to help you achieve that objective. If you need advise, just submit your enquiry below and we can advise you.
2. Who would you like to learn from?
Once you know your objective, you need to know the type of teacher who can help you.
Kids lessons:
If you just want your child to try out violin, to test if he is interested or not, a junior violin teacher is enough, and fees are lower too.
If you want your child to start on the right path and progress up the grades, then request for a more qualified violin teacher who is experienced with kids.
Adult lessons:
If you just want to learn for fun, to try out, to get a feel of the violin, a junior violin teacher is enough, and you don’t have to pay so much.
If you are serious in learning, and want to progress well, then request for a senior and experienced teacher to teach you.
Teachers with different qualifications and experience charge different fees. Most importantly, you must get the right teacher who can achieve your objective.
3. Where would you want to learn?
Do you want to learn at the teacher’s place? Or at the comfort of your home?
Most of our teachers’ teach at their home studio, while some rent a studio outside for lessons. We also do have teachers who does lessons at student’s place too.
Fees for lessons at student’s place will be higher as it includes the teacher’s transportation fees.
4. When would you like to learn?
Most lessons are fixed on a certain day and time of the week, so the teachers can plan their lessons and schedule for you.
However, we do have enquiries from students who request for lessons with flexible timings. As such, some teachers might charge slightly higher fees to compensate for the frequent change in lesson timings.
Some teachers also charge more on weekends than weekdays, as weekends are usually the more popular lesson days for students.
5. How often would you like to learn?
Most private violin lessons are fixed once a week.
However, some students may request two lessons a week. As such, the fees might be slightly discounted as there are more than 1 lessons a week.
Some students may also request a lesson every 2 weeks, or fortnightly. As such, the fees might be slightly higher to make up for the shortage of lessons a week.
Some students would like to take a set of lessons, say 8 lessons, to just learn 1 song for a special occasion (wedding proposal, wedding day, company performance…etc). As such, fees will also be quoted separately from regular lessons.
